How might we bring the community together through the activation of public space?
We worked alongside the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council, Via Chicago Architects × Diseñadores, and SmithGroup to transform the intersection at 47th and Honore into a temporary public plaza.
PROCESS
The team designed outdoor interventions for dining, lounging, performing, and flexible programming opportunities.
SOLUTION
Punctuated by vibrant painted ground graphics symbolizing the interwoven tapestry of the Latinx community coming together, the Caminata provides a brand new, centralized public space for the Back of the Yards community to enjoy.
Colorful fabrics, textures and patterns seen throughout the community inspire a design allowing users to enjoy new green space for a diverse range of recreation, performances, social gatherings and outdoor dining. ¡Entonces trae algo para comer local y ven a disfrutar la Caminata ¡47! con familia y amigos!
